Helenium bigelovii 'The Bishop'

Helenium bigelovii 'the bishop' is a deciduous perennial with a compact upright habit and single lance-shaped, slightly hairy leaves. The popular Dutch name is sunflower, the plant blooms from June to September with yellow, magritic flowers with a dark brown bulbous center. Helenium does well in any well-drained and somewhat moist soil and prefers a position in full sun. Helenium is very hardy, tolerant of sea wind and air pollution and attracts many butterflies, bees and other insects. Helenium is generally not bothered by pests, although young plants can sometimes suffer from snail damage. This is an ideal plant for group planting in the mixed border.
