Chelone obliqua

Chelone obliqua or tortoise flower in English is a deciduous perennial with a bushy upright shape. The leaves are dark green, broadly lanceolate, distinctly veined and serrated at the edges. Chelone obliqua blooms from July to September with dark pink to lilac pink flowers. The plant prefers a position in full sun or partial shade and a moist to soggy soil. The turtle flower is hardy and disease resistant, tolerates sea wind, is reasonably tolerant to air pollution but can sometimes be plagued by snails.
