Astrantia maj. 'Rubra'

Astrantia major "Rubra" is a deciduous perennial with a bushy upright shape and medium green, palmate divided leaves. This plant is called "zeeuws knot" in Dutch and blooms from June to August with beautiful dark red flowers with pink red bracts. Astrantia prefers a location in filtered sunlight or partial shade and a well-permeable moist soil. This plant is very hardy, attracts butterflies and bees and is reasonably to good air pollution and sea wind tolerant. Astrantia is often used in borders, shade gardens, informal gardens and as an undergrowth under non-shallow rooting trees.
