Spiraea jap. 'Crispa'
Spiraea japonica "Crispa" is also called muscle shrub in Dutch. It is a small, deciduous dwarf shrub with a bushy and round shape. The leaves are sharp-toothed, deeply cut, wavy and frizzy. From June to July, this muscular shrub blooms profusely with small, bright pink-red flowers in flattened corymbs on annual wood. This spiraea likes a sunny to slightly shaded position in a well-drained, cool and moist soil. This plant is hardy, tolerates (reasonably) sea wind and air pollution, is pest and disease free and, in addition to the sea of flowers in spring, also offers beautiful red leaf coloring in autumn.
