Sambucus nigra

A shrub common in the wild whose flat umbels are yellowish white in June/July.

After flowering, black clusters of small berries appear in September and October.

Birds, especially the starlings, love it.

The umbel can be used in pancakes or fried.

The ripe berries can also be used, such as elderberry juice, elderberry jenever and jam.

The unripe berries and leaves are poisonous!

The leaf is used in the medical world.
