Lavandula int. 'Edelweiss'

Lavandula intermedia 'Edelweiss' is a hybrid lavender shrub, it is a cross between l.angustifolia and l.latifolia . It grows somewhat higher than the angustifolia species and is cultivated in France for its oil. From July to September it blooms with beautiful fragrant white flowers, sometimes with a blue-pink tinge in cold weather. The leaves are silver-grey, oval and aromatic. This lavender species likes a sunny position in not too rich, well-drained soil. Pruning is necessary every year to prevent the plant from becoming lignified. Lavandula intermedia 'Edelweiss' is reasonably hardy, can withstand sea wind and air pollution and is often used for rock gardens, ground cover, herb gardens, fragrance gardens, group planting and window boxes. Also attracts butterflies and bees.
