Aster alpinus 'Dunkle Schöne'

Aster alpinus "Dunkle Schöne", in Dutch called alpine aster, is a low, compact but only short-lived spring aster with smooth, lance-shaped, medium-green leaves. This spring bloomer blooms abundantly from May to June with lilac-colored daisy-like flowers with a yellow center. It likes a sunny position or light shade and fertile, well-drained, slightly moist soil. It is very hardy, attracts many butterflies, bees and insects, and is fairly tolerant of air pollution. Unfortunately, although less than many others, it is also susceptible to disease and can be plagued by mildew or attacked by aphids and snails.
