Aucuba jap. 'Variegata'

Aucuba japonica 'Variegata' is the most common aucuba species. It is a female, evergreen variegated ornamental shrub with a bushy habit. The large glossy, leathery and smooth-edged leaves are green colored and yellow mottled. This female aucuba flowers in April and May with small purple flowers. If a male aucuba is nearby, small red berries will follow after fertilization. This plant likes a position in partial shade or shade and an acid or neutral, well-drained soil. It is hardy, drought tolerant and tolerates sea wind and air pollution.
