Silene vulgaris, native to Limburg, is mainly found on fallow land and on roadsides.
The white flowers with deeply dissected petals bloom on erect stems.
The most striking feature of the flower is the highly inflated calyx tube. It is light greenish yellow with a network of purple veins. The flowers only start to smell in the evening.
