Ratibida columnifera f. pulcherrima 'Red Midget' grows in the prairies of North America. It is a perennial that is kept as an annual here in the Low Countries. They are hardy but do not tolerate wet winters.

This cultivar is a compact form with showy flowers on thin flower stems. The flower is reminiscent of the Rudbeckia but with drooping petals. Forms a high brown-yellow cone (3cm) with hanging red-brown petals all around

The plant stays best in dry, poor soil.
