Alcea rosea 'Nigra'

Alcea rosea "Nigra" or black hollyhock is a semi-evergreen, biennial or perennial plant with an upright shape and medium green, three to seven-lobed, palmate leaves. This hollyhock blooms from June to October with large, dark purple-red, almost black bell-shaped flowers along the entire stem. Alcea rosea likes a position in full sun or partial shade that is sheltered from strong winds and does well in any soil type with a slight preference for calcareous soils. The plant is very hardy, tolerates drought well and is also sea wind and air pollution tolerant.
