Iris laevigata

Iris laevigata, in Dutch called Japanese Iris or Japanese Water Iris, is an upright, clump-forming and rhizomatous, deciduous, perennial plant of Asian origin (Japan, Korea, China). The leaves are long and narrow, medium green in color and have no midrib. This iris blooms from June to August with fragrant, violet-blue, orris-like flowers with pendulous petals with a yellow base spot. Iris laevigata 'likes a position in full sun and a neutral to acidic, humus-rich, moist soil, it can also be planted with its feet in water. This iris is hardy and tolerates sea breeze and air pollution quite well. Occasionally this iris can be attacked by snails and saw wasps.
