Iris ensata

Iris ensata, called Japanese iris in Dutch, is a deciduous perennial with a pol-forming habit. Characteristic of this iris is the large, flat flower, because the upright petals are narrow and short and the protruding lip large and wide. The Japanese iris has grass-green leaves with a striking midrib, the main bloom takes place in July, the flowers are violet-purple, flat and beardless. Japanese iris grows excellently in nutrient-rich sandy soil near the waterfront, in the period from May to August they like an almost permanently moist soil, later in the season they like to be drier, growing in pots is therefore a good solution. This plant is hardy, tolerant to sea wind and air pollution, good disease resistance and few pests
