Cyperus alternifolius

Cyperus alternifolius, syn. Cyperus involucratus is called umbrella plant in Dutch and is related to the real papyrus (Cyperus papyrus), however it does not grow taller than 1m. The umbrella plant is often used as a houseplant, but can also stand perfectly at the edge of the pond, it is best to lock it up in a pond basket because this owner dares to proliferate. The leaves are long, narrow, wreath-like, the inflorescence is quite inconspicuous with yellow-green flowers that appear in small clusters during the summer months. Cyperus alternifolius likes a position in full sun or partial shade and moist to wet soil, it also likes to stand with its feet in the water.
