Myrrhis odorata

Myrrhis odorata, also called Roman chervil, is a deciduous, herbaceous perennial with a columnar habit and fern-like, deeply cut, green leaves with an anise-like perfume. Roman chervil blooms from July to August, with small white umbels, followed later by aniseed-scented ribbed seeds. Myrrhis odorata prefers a position in partial shade and moist, but well-drained, moderately fertile soil. The plant is very hardy, drought tolerant, tolerates sea wind and air pollution and attracts bees and butterflies. All parts of the plant, seed, roots and leaves lend themselves to culinary uses.
