Polystichum setiferum "Proliferum" is called breeding fern in Dutch, a name that it owes to the young ferns that grow along the stems. It is a medium-sized, beautiful variety with an oblique, horizontal habit. It has soft, bipinnate, medium green, elegant feathers. This fern from Australia likes a sheltered position in partial shade or shade and a well-drained, humus-rich, nutrient-rich, slightly moist soil. Polystichum setiferum "Proliferum" is hardy, fairly tolerant to air pollution and sea wind and once well established, sufficiently drought resistant. It has few pests and is also disease resistant.
