Onoclea sensibilis

Onoclea sensibilis, also called bubble fern, is a large, graceful, fast-growing fern, with a clump-forming and slightly proliferating habit. This fern has double-feathered, light green leaves on long stems. The short, fertile, spore-bearing leaves develop between July and August. This graceful fern likes a sheltered position in partial shade or shade and a well-drained, humus-rich, moist soil. Onoclea sensibilis is very hardy, tolerant of air pollution and once well established it can handle drier periods. It has few pests and is also disease resistant. This fern is suitable for the woodland garden, informal garden, cottage garden and can be used as underplanting or ground cover.
