Panicum virg. 'Heavy Metal'

Panicum virgatum 'Heavy Metal', called finger grass in Dutch, is a deciduous grass with an upright, columnar habit. The attractive narrow linear leaves are colored blue-green to blue-gray and turn a beige-yellow color in autumn. Panicum virgatum 'Heavy Metal' flowers from August to October with airy mauve flower panicles that quickly turn straw-colored once the seed begins to ripen. Finger grass prefers a sunny position in slightly moist, well-drained, not too fertile soil. This plant is very hardy, reasonably drought tolerant, tolerates sea wind and air pollution well, has little or no problems with pests or diseases. Panicum virgatum 'Heavy Metal' can be used in borders, prairie garden and group planting.
