Leymus arenarius

Leymus arenarius, syn. Elymus arenarius, in Dutch called sand oats, is a large evergreen grass species with an upright shape. The grass blades are gray-blue and pointed at the top. Sand oats flowers from May to July with wheat-like flower spikes with a blue hue that quickly turn creamy white. Leymus arenarius prefers a position in full sun or partial shade and a well-drained, not too fertile, preferably sandy soil. this ornamental grass is hardy, very drought tolerant, tolerates direct sea wind and tolerates air pollution. Leymus arenarius also has little or no problems with pests or diseases.
