Lonicera nitida called "Elegant" in Dutch Chinese honeysuckle is a decorative medium-sized evergreen shrub with a broad upright habit. It blooms from May to June with unobtrusive scented ivory-white flowers. The leaves are glossy, dark green and oval in shape. Lonicera nitida "Elegant" does well in any well-drained soil and prefers a sunny or partial shade position. This Chinese honeysuckle is hardy, slow growing and does not require much pruning. The violet berries are loved by the birds and the small scented flowers provide good nectar for bees and insects. The plant is sea wind and air pollution tolerant and can be used as a coastal plant, ground cover, informal hedge, bonsai plant.
