Pseudosasa japonica

Pseudosasa japonica, called Japanese bamboo in Dutch, is a large evergreen bamboo with a stiff, upright, fairly compact habit at first and slightly bending at a later age. The large and broad leaves are glossy, dark green and stand on thin green culms. Pseudosasa japonica prefers a sheltered position in partial shade or sun and requires moist but well-drained fertile soil. This Japanese bamboo is reasonably to hardy in a southern or western orientation, unlike many other species, it also tolerates a fair amount of drought and is also tolerant to sea wind, which makes it suitable for the coastal region.
