Veronica austr. 'Knallblau'
Veronica austriaca "Knallblau", also called "broadleaf speedwell" in Dutch, is a semi-evergreen perennial with an upright, mat-forming, fairly bushy habit and small, slightly hairy, lance-shaped dark green leaves on thread-fine stems. Veronica austriaca "Knallblau" flowers from June to August with attractive gentian blue terminal flower spikes. This speedwell prefers a sunny position and requires well-drained, moderately fertile, preferably somewhat calcareous soil. The plant is hardy and fairly drought tolerant. It tolerates sea wind, air pollution and is not bothered by vermin. Veronica austriaca "Knallblau" is suitable as a cut flower, dried flower, ground cover, coastal plant and also works in the rock garden.
