Stachys byzantina

Stachys byzantina is also called dog's ear in Dutch. It is an evergreen perennial with a carpet-forming habit. The attractive leaves are up to 12 cm long, elliptical, gray-green and covered with a silvery-white down. This donkey's ear blooms from June to early September with small, lilac-pink flowers in white felt-like spikes on upright flower stems. Stachys byzantina prefers a sunny position and well-drained, moderately fertile, dry soil. He fails on too limy soil. Donkey's ear is sensitive to wet growing conditions, especially in winter protection against excessive water is recommended. The plant is also very hardy, tolerant of sea wind and air pollution and tolerates drought well.
