Stachys byz. 'Silver Carpet'

Stachys byzantina "Silver Carpet" is also called dog ear in Dutch. It is an evergreen perennial with a carpet-forming habit. The attractive leaves are up to 10 cm long, elliptical, gray-green and covered with a silvery-white down. This variety rarely or never flowers, if flowering does occur, it runs from June to August with pink purple flowers on upright stems. Stachys byzantina "Silver Carpet" likes a sunny position and a well-drained, moderately fertile, dry soil. Donkey's ear is sensitive to wet growing conditions, especially in winter protection against excessive water is recommended. The plant is also very hardy, tolerant of sea wind and air pollution and tolerates drought well.
