Scabiosa col. 'Butterfly Blue'

Scabiosa columbaria "Butterfly Blue", also called pigeon herb, is a deciduous perennial with a bushy, clump-forming habit. The leaves are gray-green to medium green and lobed at the base, the upper leaves are pinnate. This pigeon herb blooms from June to October with lavender-blue solitary flowers with a light center. During flowering, overblown flowers should be removed to encourage prolonged flowering. Scabiosa columbaria prefers a sunny position and only thrives in neutral, very well-drained soil. The plant hates wet feet. Scabiosa columbaria "Butterfly Blue" is hardy, drought tolerant, tolerates sea wind and air pollution and is virtually free from diseases or pests. It is an ideal plant for the border in informal gardens.
