Physalis alkekengi 'Franchetii'

Physalis alkekengi "franchetii" is called small lantern plant in Dutch. It is a deciduous perennial with a fairly invasive, creeping habit and medium green heart-shaped leaves. This lantern plant blooms from May to July with inconspicuous, hanging, creamy white flowers, later followed by orange-red berries surrounded by papery lanterns. Physalis alkekengi "franchetti" has slightly smaller leaves than the species, prefers a position in partial shade or filtered sunlight and a well-permeable soil. This plant is hardy, drought tolerant, decorative in summer and autumn and disease free.
