Oenothera macrocarpa

Oenothera macrocarpa, also called evening primrose, is a small, deciduous perennial, with a supine to creeping habit. The plant has narrow, lance-shaped, medium-green leaves and blooms from June to August, with large, yellow, light-scented flowers. It is a typical night bloomer, the flowers only shine for one day, they open from afternoon until the next morning. Oenothera macrocarpa prefers a position in full sun and an especially well-drained soil. The plant is drought tolerant and hates wet growing conditions. Showy winged seed pods also appear in the fall. Evening primrose is very hardy and reasonably tolerant of sea wind and air pollution.
