Kirengeshoma palmata

Kirengeshoma palmata, called Japanese wax flower in Dutch, is a particularly attractive deciduous perennial with an upright and polishing habit. This member of the hydrangeacaea family has decorative hand-shaped, lobed light green leaves on maroon stems and blooms in late summer and fall with showy cream-yellow bell-shaped flowers, later followed by spiky brown-green seed pods. Japanese wax flower prefers a sheltered position in partial shade or shade and prefers a neutral to acidic, fertile, well-drained, moist soil. Kirengeshoma is very hardy, disease resistant and pest free, although the young leaves can fall prey to snails.
