Helleborus purpurascens

Helleborus purpurascens are semi-evergreen perennials with a compact clump-forming habit and medium green, leathery, deeply incised and serrated leaves. These hellebores bloom from January to April with gray-violet cup-shaped flowers with white stamens. Helleborus purpurascens prefers a position in partial shade, but also does well in full shade under tall trees. It prefers well-drained, neutral or alkaline soil, but also tolerates slightly acidic soil. This plant is fairly hardy, but does appreciate some winter protection in severe winters.
