Salvia officinalis
Salvia officinalis, also known as true sage, is a semi-evergreen perennial with a compact upright shape and gray-green, oval to elongated, aromatic leaves. This decorative, but also culinary sage, blooms from June to August with violet-blue flower spikes. It may be cut back after the first bloom to encourage a second bloom. The plant likes a position in full sun and does well in almost any soil type. Salvia officinalis is hardy, drought tolerant, tolerates sea wind and has few problems with diseases. Sage is digestive and antiseptic. It can be used in sauces, herbal vinegar or herbal oil, it is also made into tea and applications in toothpaste and mouthwash are still topical.

Satureja montana, also called winter savory or mountain rock thyme, is an evergreen perennial or semi-shrub with a bushy, upright shape and narrow, almost linear, aromatic dark green leaves. Winter savory blooms from July to September with small purple, lilac-white to lilac-pink flowers, later followed by dark brown seeds. The plant prefers a sunny position and a neutral to calcareous, well-drained, not too fertile soil. Thymus vulgaris 'Compactus' is called real thyme in Dutch. It is an evergreen perennial with a bushy and low habit. The downy leaves are dark green and aromatic. Real thyme flowers from June to August with lots of pink to lilac flowers. The plant prefers a position in full sun and a well-drained, not too fertile, reasonably dry soil. Thymus vulgaris 'Compactus' can be pruned back in early spring and even light trimming is possible after flowering.
