Elodea densa
Elodea densa, called waterweed in Dutch, originates from South America. This submerged, evergreen aquatic plant with stems of 80cm and more has an enormous water purifying capacity and invasive vigor. It quickly forms offshoots and can form entire mats in a short time. The leaves are elongated, lanceolate, dark green, the lower ones in whorls of three, the upper one in whorls of 4 to 8 leaves. Waterweed likes a place with sufficient sunlight. A water depth of 50 to 80 cm is ideal, but with sufficient light Elodea densa can grow in water up to 4 m deep. Brazilian waterweed is hardy in sufficiently deep water, disease resistant, pest free, tolerant to air pollution and the plant also tolerates sea wind and air pollution.

Fontinalis antipyretica, in Dutch called bronmos, is an evergreen leaf moss that is found throughout the northern hemisphere. This beautiful underwater plant has dark green, pointed, lance-shaped leaves that grow close together along the petiole in 3 rows. This plant does not flower but propagates via spores. Fontinalis antipyretica prefers clear and cool (running), not too soft water and a position in partial shade. Bronze moss is hardy, evergreen, has little trouble with diseases or pests, tolerates sea wind and air pollution and removes pollutants such as metals from the water. it is not the easiest plant to keep in culture, water above 20 ° C is not well tolerated.

Hydrocotyle novae-zelandiae
Hydrocotyle 'novae zelandiae', in Dutch, called pennywort, is a swamp plant with a creeping rhizome that grows (too) abundantly both in and out of the water. As a land form it is often used as a ground cover, in the water it forms mat, the shield-shaped leaves then float on the water surface. The inflorescence during the summer is rather inconspicuous with small greenish flowers on thin stems. Pennywort likes a position in partial shade or sun and does well in any moist to normally dry soil type. Hydrocotyle 'novae zelandiae' is reasonably hardy, tolerates drought, sea wind and air pollution and has little or no problems with pests and diseases. As a landform, pennywort can spread very quickly and occupy entire lawn beds.

Callitriche verna
Callitriche verna, called little star duck in Dutch, is an evergreen oxygenating plant or floating plant with a wide distribution area, the plant is also native to Belgium and the Netherlands. Little Star Duckweed has small, narrow, elliptical, bright green leaves that float on the surface of the water in a rosette form. Callitriche verna blooms in spring with small, axillary, white-green flowers made up of 1 stamen or 1 pistil. Ceratophyllum demersum
Ceratophyllum demersum, called thorn or coarse hornwort in Dutch, is a submerged aquatic plant without roots, with a very high water-purifying capacity. This oxygenating plant is a true cosmopolitan and occurs almost worldwide in sufficiently deep and fresh water. The leaves are dark green, branched fork-shaped, standing in whorls on long stems. This hornwort blooms in summer with small white flowers, the plant is monoecious, the male flowers have about 20 stamens, the female 1 pistil. The pollen floats through the water until it reaches the pistil, after fertilization olive green spiny achenes form. Thorn hornwort is very hardy, grows quickly, is not salt tolerant and only suitable for fresh water.

The flowers are inconspicuous, greenish white to pinkish, the flowering period runs from May to August. Waterweed likes a place with sufficient sunlight and prefers to grow in a mixture of clay and peat, but it also comes into its own in a sandy soil.

Alisma lanceolatum
Alisma lanceolatum, called slender water plantain in Dutch, is a deciduous aquatic plant with an upright, wide-spread habit. The leaves are narrow, lanceolate and blue-green colored. Slender water plantain blooms from June to August with purple-pink flowers in a panicle-shaped inflorescence. Alisma lanceolatum likes a position in full sun and prefers to stand 10 to 30 cm deep with its feet in the water, although it can also temporarily cope with drier conditions.
