Sarracenia psittacina, also called pitcher plant, is a small carnivorous plant with a broad, almost horizontal habit. The plant flowers very early in spring with large, fragrant, brown-red flowers, which are mainly fertilized by bees. Once fertilization is a fact, it is time to produce plenty of leaves again. The leaves here do not consist of erect, broad funnel-shaped beakers, but of oblique, horizontal beaker tubes with a parrot's head. Through the small opening in the head, the insect is lured within the spherical space. Scirpus cernus, syn. Isolepis cernua, called coniferous grass in Dutch, is a very decorative underwater grass with evergreen, fine, bright green grass-like leaves and abundant mini white flowers that tower on thin stalks just above the water surface. Coniferous grass likes a sheltered position in full sun or partial shade and a water depth that may vary from 0 to 60 cm. This plant likes an acidic to neutral, permanently moist soil and can be incorporated well in the filter zone of the pond, although some winter protection is advisable there. Coniferous grass is fairly hardy, tolerates sea wind and even brackish water, is tolerant of air pollution.

Thalia dealbata "Red Stem" is an aquatic plant with a tropical look. It has large, oval to lanceolate, gray-green leaves with a fine red margin and a powdery, white underside. The stems are brown-red. The plant blooms from July to September with violet-colored, waxy flowers. These are grouped in long spikes on tall, red stems. Thalia dealbata "Red Stem" likes a warm, sunny position and a water depth of 30 to 60 cm. It prefers good loamy soil. The plant is hardy if it is overwintered sufficiently deep in the winter months and thus frost-free, a depth of 60cm is recommended during these months.

Actinidia columnikta, in Dutch called ornamental kiwi, siberian kiwi or even cat kiwi, is a deciduous compact upright climbing vine with large oval to heart-shaped leaves that are colored dark green and in the male specimens are also decorative variegated leaves with white and pink spots towards the leaf tip. Siberian kiwi flowers in April and May with pleasantly fragrant creamy white flowers, the female flowers will later produce orange-green fruits, if there is also a male plant nearby. These mini kiwis of barely 2 cm are edible and have a sweet aromatic taste. Akebia quinata, called mock gherkin or chocolate vine in Dutch, is a vigorously upright semi-evergreen climber with a broad-spreading habit. The leaves are compound, five-lobed and palmate, the leaflets are ovate, leathery and colored dark green to blue-green. This chocolate vine flowers in April and May with chestnut-red to chocolate-coloured, pleasantly fragrant flowers in pendulous racemes, later followed by striking gherkin-like violet-purple fruits. Aristolochia macrophylla, also called German pipe, pipe flower or muff pipe in Dutch, is a vigorously upright, deciduous climbing plant with large heart-shaped dark green leaves that grow over each other like roof tiles, forming a dense foliage. The German pipe blooms from May to July with yellow-green to yellow-brown flowers, which, if you're imagining, look like a curved pipe neck and also work perfectly as an insect trap. Aristolochia macrophylla likes a position in partial shade or sun, but especially appreciates it if it does not stand with its feet in full sun.
