Ferns are a group of vascular plants belonging to the Pteropsida or the Monilophyta depending on the classification. In addition to the 'true ferns', the name 'ferns' also includes the eusporangiate ferns (the 'fern-like', English: fern allies) - including the horsetail, the Psilotopsida with the adder-tongue family, and the Marattiopsida, but without the Lycophyta (dewclaws and rush ferns), which are a sister group of the ferns.
