Perenials

A hardy plant is one that is adapted in such a way that it is not damaged at temperatures below 0 ° C and thus survives a cold period. This survival does not necessarily apply to the plant as a whole, but after the winter a hardy plant will sprout normally again. Plants that do get damaged or freeze to pieces are called 'soft' or 'semi-hardy' plants. This difference is due to the physiology of the cells. In 'non-hardy' plants, ice crystals form in the cell at temperatures below 0 ° C.

Agapanthus africanus
Agapanthus africanus is called African lily, Cape lily or tuberose in Dutch. It is a graceful evergreen perennial with a pol-forming habit, long and narrow upright leaves and blue trumpet-shaped flowers on long stems. The flowering period is always in full summer: July August. Agapanthus africanus likes a position in full sun in well-permeable (potting) soil and suitable fertilization. It is not hardy and will need to spend the winter in a sufficiently bright, moderately heated room. This Cape Lily is very sea wind tolerant and can also handle air pollution.
